Mailchimp + AdRoll
Through our MailChimp integration, you can sync your MailChimp email lists directly from your account to AdRoll. Matched through our CRM data onboarding process, this integration helps you easily convert your lists into a targetable audience.

Additionally, with AdRoll's cross-channel attribution*, you can connect your Mailchimp account to the AdRoll platform to analyze your email campaigns against your AdRoll web ads, social ads, and trusted source like Shopify, Google Analytics, etc. 

Please note that you must have at least 100 unique user emails in each of your lists for the CRM lists to successfully populate.

Mailchimp Data in Cross-Channel Attribution
With AdRoll’s cross-channel attribution*, connect your Mailchimp account to the AdRoll platform to centralize metrics from across your marketing channels. Eliminate the need to login to separate platforms to view and export metrics. Instead, integrate your campaign data and get one place to analyze and attribute across your marketing channels.

This integration allows you to view your Mailchimp email campaigns and historical performance data. You can also set date ranges, filter by channel, choose your attribution model, and customize the dashboard with your preferred KPIs. 

Integrating & Importing Data for Attribution
Connecting Mailchimp is very straightforward, please follow these steps for easy integration:
  1. While logged into your AdRoll account, click on the “Integrations” button located in the bottom left corner of your dashboard.
  2. Find “Mailchimp”, click on the tile which opens a modal with more information.
  3. Click on the “Connect Mailchimp” button.
  4. From there, a popup appears where you can log into your Mailchimp account.**

Once you connect successfully, any of your campaigns with activity in the last 12 months will automatically be added to the AdRoll platform where you will be able to view your Mailchimp campaigns alongside your display and social ad campaigns.

Initially your campaign data will take up to 24 hours to import, but after that, your Mailchimp data will be updated on an hourly basis including:
  • Campaign details (id, name, date, channel)
  • Key metrics: Opens, clicks, delivered, bounced, revenue, conversions, marked as spam, unsubscribed

Sync MailChimp CRM Audiences
To find the MailChimp integration tool, navigate to your Website Audience tab > Connected Audiences. Once integrated, each list selected will populate as its own audience in the Website Audience tab.

Activate the MailChimp Integration:Navigate to Integrations.Click Sync segments from MailChimp.Check the box to Sync MailChimp emails to AdRoll. A field to enter your MailChimp API Key will appear.Click here and enter your MailChimp username and password to gain access your unique MailChimp API key, which you need to complete this integration.Copy the key and then return to AdRoll.In Integrations, paste your MailChimp API Key into the corresponding field.Click Select Lists to specify which (or all) lists you want to import as a CRM audience.Save.
Best Practices

To learn how to create and manage your lists within MailChimp, click here. Below we outline some tips and considerations to take when preparing your lists for CRM data onboarding.

  • Your lists should contain at minimum 100 emails for best performance.
  • Use personal emails when possible, as they match at a higher rate.
  • Make sure your email database is up to date—adding an email validation step during signup workflows can be very helpful to make sure that users are supplying active emails.
  • Consider combining CRM segments with other types of segments (link to other segment articles) to boost performance. Remember, the larger the audience your campaign has, the more optimization we can perform!

Waiting for Imported Audiences to Appear
Your MailChimp CRM audiences may not appear in AdRoll immediately. We'll begin the matching process for new lists within six hours. Any new emails added after the process has begun may take up to two weeks to be matched.

Imported audiences names will automatically end with MailChimp.

After your email list appears, the cookie matching begins. Give this up to seven days to activate fully on your campaigns.

What to Expect Once Integrated
  • We'll pull new emails from MailChimp every 24 hours. Once pulled, the matching process takes up to seven days.
  • For US advertisers, CRM can be launched on both web and Facebook. Where possible, we recommend using US-based email addresses.
  • Outside of the US, CRM audiences have limited functionality on web campaigns. We recommend that non-US advertisers adopt CRM retargeting on Facebook instead. 
  • You can't edit a CRM audience once it's created.
  • Cookie matching on Facebook takes less than 24 hours. 
  • Cookie matching on the web takes up to seven days, depending on the size of your email list.

Matched Emails
We'll display the number of emails originally uploaded through the MailChimp integration.

To see how many emails were successfully matched for Web or Facebook, click on the name of your MailChimp audience in the Website Audience tab.
